Due to the popularity of various open-source codes in today’s Internet technology, building websites has become increasingly simple. However, many people often do not know how to perform SEO for their new websites after creating them. Here I share some SEO tips for new websites:

1. Domain Name Registration: Although Baidu claims it does not discriminate against unconventional domain names (such as .win, .kim, etc.), it also states that domain names easy for users to remember, such as .com and .net, are preferred by search engines. Other search engines besides Baidu have indicated that domain names relevant to the website’s theme may receive weighted rankings. Additionally, check whether the domain name has a “black history” before registration; if so, it is best to abandon it.

2. Hosting Selection: Those with sufficient budget can directly use cloud servers or dedicated servers. Friends with limited funds can choose virtual hosts, preferably with a dedicated IP (this has a significant impact), and uptime and availability must be guaranteed. Do not pursue cheap options—you get what you pay for. The virtual host I purchased once had its IP changed because other sites on it suffered DDoS attacks and the data center could not withstand them. This caused search engine spiders to fail to access our site during reduced-frequency crawls. The losses incurred speak for themselves.

Here’s a tip for you: Always request a trial before buying a virtual host. Deploy a relatively large program, scrape thousands of articles, and install several plugins if using a CMS. Then test the website speed on multiple speed-test platforms for 2–3 days, and you will have a clear idea. In a shared IP environment, use tools to check other sites on the same IP to see if there are any illegal websites, attack-prone sites, or resource-heavy sites. Believe it or not, there was once a search engine spider on the same IP as my server.

3. Basic Website Setup: After the website code is built, corporate sites should upload introduction and qualification pages, while personal sites (such as blogs) should complete personal introductions and website descriptions.

If you have an ICP filing or license, display it prominently. Baidu has stated that it values all information useful to users. (Various certificates enhance our credibility and will be weighted by Baidu.)

4. Website Development: Do not use content scraping or low-quality pseudo-original articles in the early stage; focus on high-quality original content (you can hire writers if you cannot create it yourself). At this stage, do not rush to build external links or submit the site to search engines (it is better to keep it offline temporarily). Perfect the title, keywords, and description for the homepage, list pages, and content pages, and ensure no omissions.
