“Website Ranking Optimization Costs” SEO Strategies for Foreign Trade E-Commerce Websites: Keyword Research
People who are new to the industry may not yet realize that, whether domestically or overseas, most non-mainstream Google SEO tutorials focus mainly on improving rankings for content sites or blog posts. There is very little professional SEO guidance specifically tailored for e-commerce websites.
For those of us in foreign trade, however, foreign trade e-commerce sites are our core focus. Applying general Google SEO techniques learned from regular tutorials to foreign trade e-commerce sites often leads to significant mismatches. Therefore, to truly achieve effective optimization, mastering SEO for foreign trade e-commerce websites is essential.
For this reason, Teacher Yiquan has decided to launch a special series on foreign trade e-commerce SEO. Today we begin with the foundation: keyword research.
Keywords are the foundation of all website SEO, much like concrete for a house. Without enough concrete, the house cannot be built large or stable. This is even more critical for e-commerce sites, as no other type of website requires as many keywords as e-commerce.
We have covered keyword research many times before. For content sites, forums, and other information-based websites, we mainly use Google Keyword Planner (GKP) to find keywords. However, for foreign trade e-commerce sites, the keywords we need must have stronger commercial intent and higher selectivity. So I recommend obtaining them through the following methods.
People often say that success lies in imitation, but the basis of imitation is in-depth research on competitors.
If your site is a B2C foreign trade store, Amazon is undoubtedly your biggest and most successful competitor. By analyzing Amazon’s search suggestions, you can discover many valuable keywords that customers use to search for products.
Getting Amazon’s suggested keywords is simple: just type your product into the search box, and relevant suggestions will appear in the dropdown.
These suggestions are usually long-tail variations of your search term, displayed from left to right by search volume. I recommend incorporating these terms naturally into your product titles and descriptions.
Another important point: when Amazon shows suggestions, it also quietly displays which categories the search terms belong to.

These categories provide excellent reference for classifying your products.
Of course, Amazon keywords are mainly suitable for B2C foreign trade stores. For B2B foreign trade websites, checking hot search terms on B2B platforms like Alibaba is an excellent choice. I won’t elaborate further — you should already be quite familiar with this.
Keyword Tool Dominator (official site: keywordtooldominator.com) is a very useful tool for collecting Amazon search suggestions. It is easy to use: simply enter your product keyword in the search box.
After clicking search, you will get all related suggestions for that term on the Amazon platform.
Once you use Keyword Tool Dominator, you will realize how powerful it is. It not only works much faster than manually checking Amazon’s dropdown suggestions but also provides far more reference terms.
For example, a manual search for “organic Dog Food” yields only 8 dropdown suggestions, but this tool can give you 49.
