What is SEO: The following is excerpted from Baidu Baike:
SEO (Search Engine Optimization) is the practice of improving a website’s organic rankings in search engines by following their rules. SEO refers to reasonable planning of website structure, content development, user interaction and pages to obtain more free traffic from search engines and make the site more search-engine-friendly.
How SEO Works
Search engine operations are quite complex; here is a simplified overview. Further SEO optimization methods will be explained based on these steps.
Crawling: Search engine spiders request pages from the server and obtain page content.
Parsing and Indexing: The collected content is analyzed, and high-quality pages are indexed.
Ranking: When users search for keywords, indexed pages are ranked according to certain rules and results are returned.
SEO Optimization
To optimize effectively, we must follow how SEO works — know your enemy and know yourself, and you can fight a hundred battles without defeat. We will elaborate on the three steps above, mainly using Baidu Spider as an example.
Page Crawling
How to attract spiders to visit our site and encourage them to crawl frequently. Here are several optimization methods:
URL Submission. This includes several methods:
Sitemap Submission. A sitemap, as the name suggests, is a site map that tells spiders how many pages the website has, how pages are categorized, and each page’s URL. With clear guidance, spiders can easily crawl all content. If your site has many categories and a large number of pages, an indexed sitemap is recommended. If the site is frequently updated with new pages, update the sitemap in a timely manner.
Active Submission. Submit URLs directly through Baidu’s official interface to inform Baidu of your pages. This is the most efficient and fastest way to get indexed. However, note that Baidu limits daily submission volume. Repeatedly submitting duplicate pages may reduce your daily quota, so avoid resubmitting already indexed pages. Indexing takes time, so please be patient.
Real-time Submission. Install Baidu’s submission code on pages. When a user opens a page, it is automatically submitted to Baidu. No need to worry about duplicate submissions here.
